Choosing Paint Color

Of course you could go with pink if it's a girl, blue if it's a boy or something neutral like yellow or green if you are not finding out the sex of the baby. But did you know that color can affect the moods of children? Different colors affect each of us in different ways but there are some basic rules that seem to remain a constant for most everyone. Here are a few basic examples of how a color can affect your mood:

Blue: When a soft blue shade is used, it creates a calming, peaceful environment. This is great for a bedroom, especially kids, in helping to promote sleep.
Red: Bright reds can cause excitability, so maybe not the best choice for a child's bedroom. It could be used as an accent color to brighten up a room.
Pink: However, pink is a lighter shade of red and can provide a sense of being cared for. We recently painted our three year old little girl's room pink and so far it has been a success! She loves to spend time in there.
Yellow: I've read conflicting theories on yellow so maybe it depends on the shade of yellow used? A softer shade could be known as a calming color or creating a warm, sunny feel. A brighter shade is also seen as sunny, cheerful, creating optimism, but can cause headaches in adults and is also the hardest color to see. Imagine looking at the sun.
White: This color represents cleanliness, purity, peace and joy. White reflects 80% of light so the room will feel larger and brighter. White seems like a boring color to use for a baby or child's room but could be brightened up with colorful bedding and coordinating accessories.
Green: This is a very earthy color. It is very soothing and calm, therefore great for a bedroom or really any other room. It is the easiest color to look at and most restful color to the eye.
Purple: Darker shades can evoke feelings of sadness and frustration. Lighter shades such as lavender can create a more peaceful and nostalgic feeling. Great color for a girls bedroom.
These are just a few fun tips on color choice. Whatever you do, don't over analyze your decision, just go with what is most fitting for your home and most pleasing to you.
